Lorton, Robert (Bobby) Mitchell
Robert (Bobby) Mitchell Lorton, age 50 of New River, died Thursday September 6, 2012 at New River Valley Medical Center. Bobby lost his courageous battle with cancer and went to be with his Lord. He was a 1980 graduate of PCHS, where he played in the marching band with the nick name BOOGIE. Bobby worked at St. Albans, Camp 1 correctional unit, and Pulaski County Sheriffs Department where he was a dispatcher and animal control and code enforcement officer. He was a life member of Pulaski County Life Saving Crew with the pager and unit number 274. He taught many classes including basic first aid and CPR. He was the sole organizer of many mock disasters to help train personnel for emergencies, as well as an organizer for arranging “Emergency Day” in the county of Pulaski. Bobby dedicated his life to helping and training others, so they could help others in due time which fulfilled his short, but complete life. He was preceded in death by his mother Charlotte Linkous Lorton, his father Robert (Bob) Lee Lorton, paternal grandparents, Wallace and Pearl Lorton, maternal grandparents, Brady and Nina Linkous. He is survived by: three sisters, Melissa (Missy) and David Lawson of Georgia, Rhonda Meadows of Pulaski, and Lillian (Lil) Edmonds of Radford: Aunts; Evelyn Hedge of Radford, and Sue Gibbs of Christiansburg: Uncle, Brady Linkous of Hickory, NC: nieces, Heather Lawson, and Chantal Broome: Nephews, Alvin Ward, Christopher Ward, James Lawson, Raheem Edmonds, Joseph Clark and Robert Meadows: step-mother, Janice Lorton, and step-sisters, Janella Goad, Denise Saunders, and Valerie Harris. Funeral services will be held Monday September 10, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Seagle Funeral Home with David Lawson officiating. Interment will be private. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Seagle Funeral Home.
