Smeltzer Kemp Langhorne, age 84, of Christiansburg passed away Friday, November 17, 2006 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

Born and reared in Evington, Va. (Campbell County), he was educated at New London Academy, Lynchburg College and the University of Virginia. He was a member of St Peters Anglican Catholic Church. He had fifty years experience in industrial Engineering and industrial Management. He was employed by the following companies, Dupont, Blue Ridge Manufacturing and Weiman Company.

The son of the late Senator R.H. and Sara Kabler Langhorne, he was also predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Charles McCarthy. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Langhorne; son and daughter-in-law, Richard Kemp Langhorne and wife, Nanette and their children, Kemp and William, Gibsonville, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Sara Hill Colhoun and Dudley, Winston-Salem, N.C.; ten nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Box 176, Christiansburg, Va 24068.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Sunday evening at the Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. Per his request his body will be cremated, graveside interment services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, in the family plot at Good Sheppard Church Cemetery, Evington, Va.
