Mildred Louise Simpkins Kirk, 79, of Rich Creek, born in Giles County July 29, 1934, passed away March 22, 2014, at Heritage Hall-Rich Creek, a place she considered her second home, where she received so much love, attention and care. We appreciate everything that was done for her there.

Her home was always open for sharing God’s word and encouraging those in search of Christian love. A lifelong mission was to share her faith with every person who she crossed paths with and she always had a special place in her heart for all children. No one ever left her home hungry because there was a never-ending supply of the delicious food she was well known for cooking. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Rich Creek, she enjoyed singing in the choir, the women’s circle and being active in the Rich Creek community. Gardening was another of her pleasures and her yard was covered with flowerbeds of many beautiful colors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Early Houston and Mary Katherine James Simpkins, brother, James Simpkins and sisters, Margaret (Alfred) Tabor, Francis (Jack) Collins and brother-in-law George Bennett. Survivors include, her loving husband of 61 years, Walter Davis Kirk, of Rich Creek; son, John “Johnny” and Paulette Kirk, of Blacksburg; and daughter, Connie and John Sublett, of Pembroke; grandchildren, Jason and Kehinde Kirk, of McCleansville, N.C., Tina and Tom Russell, of Blacksburg, Adam and Tiffany Sublett, of Pearisburg, Katherine and Clifford Shirah and Stuart Sublett, of Pembroke; and eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Marie) Simpkins, Ronnie (Sylvia) Simpkins, Newton (Tamera) Simpkins; and sister, Carol Bennett; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at First United Methodist Church of Rich Creek, with the Pastor Doug Hyndrich officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, Va. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown, W.Va.
