Ivia Freida Whitaker Kanode, 96, of Pulaski County, Va., passed peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2014. She was the daughter of the late David Dexter Whitaker and Nannie B. Semones Whitaker.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Willard Duane Kanode, her grandson, Roy Lee Blevins Jr., her brothers, David A. “Bud” Whitaker and John Roy Whitaker and by her sisters, Donna Irene Sullivan and Elsie Jane Collins.

Ivia was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pulaski, Va., and a former member of Draper Valley Presbyterian Church. Ivia worked in the Pulaski County School System and was fondly known as the “Lunch Lady,” both at Central Elementary and Critzer Elementary Schools.

Surviving are her husband of 76 years on June 18, Charles Willard Kanode, daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Doug Lindamood; granddaughter, JoAnna Lynn Kanode, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, June 18 at 7 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore officiating.

Visiting will be held at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the service hour. Burial will be in Hufford Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Pulaski County Christmas Store, P. O. Box 2227, Pulaski, Va. 24301, or to the Pulaski Daily Bread, P. O. Box 824, Pulaski, Va. 24301, or to the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir, 135 Fourth St., NW, Pulaski, Va. 24301.

The Kanode family is in the care of Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va. The family will be meeting at the “Homeplace” 4478 Brookmont Rd., Pulaski, Va.
