Hypes, Levi
Levi Hypes, 82, of Pembroke went to be with his Lord Tuesday morning July 4, 2006 at his home. Born in Montgomery County on August 11, 1923 he was a son of the late Craig and Irene Hughes Hypes.
He was raised in the fellowship of Level Green Christian Church; was a member of French’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, was retired from the U S Army as a Sergeant 1st Cl having served in WWII, The Korean War, and The VietNam War, and was retired from VPI&SU.
His wife, Mary Wood Hypes, a step-daughter, Mary Munoz and two brothers, Junior and Sid Hypes preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter and son-in-law with whom he made his home, Linda and Michael Meredith of Pembroke; a beloved friend Jean M. Stafford of Pearisburg and her son Brian; a brother and sister-in-law Doug and Juanita Hypes of Rocky Mount, NC; two sisters and a brother-in-law Yvonnie and Andrew Lucas of Newport and “Tiny” Ryan of Virginia Beach; his beloved grandsons Michael Meredith, Jr.and his wife Kelly of Narrows and H. A. Smith III and his wife Kim of Greensboro, NC; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 4 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastor Bill Akers and Pastor Mike Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Level Green Church Cemetery in Craig County. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the services (2-4PM).
