Hylton, Maynard Gilbert

Maynard Gilbert Hylton, 92, of 392 Huckleberry Road, Floyd, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, November 12, 2006, at Lewis-Gale Medical Center, Salem, Va.

He was born March 25, 1914, in Floyd County, Va. Maynard was a member and Deacon of the Laurel Branch Church of the Brethren. He managed a farm in Floyd County and retired from Citizens Telephone Cooperative after 43 years of service to the company. During his retirement years, he was very involved in genealogy research and printed a book, John B. & Nancy Howell Hylton.

Maynard was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Walker Hylton, and mother, Salena Bowman Hylton; his nine brothers and sisters, Gay H. Smith, Clarris H. Reed, Effie H. Harman, John B. Hylton, Jabe H. Hylton, Bessie H. Pullen, Ira M. Hylton, Ila H. Keller, and Julian (Pete) P. Hylton.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of almost 71 years, Edith Elizabeth Reed Hylton. He is blessed with one daughter and son-in-law, Iva H. and Dale A. Bukkila, Riner; three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald E. and Brenda S. Hylton, Floyd, Olen L. and Lavene M. Hylton, Salem, and M. Wayne and Darlene H. Hylton, Westminster, Md. Surviving grandchildren include, Karen L. and Mark Via, Floyd, Donna H. and Danny Smith, Floyd, Eric Bukkila, Richmond, Todd and Angie P. Hylton, Floyd, Adam and Christa D. Hylton, Salem, Christa Hylton, Westminster, Md., Chad Hylton, Westminster, Md. Also surviving are six greatgrandchildren, Angela, Patricia, and Laura Lee Via, Floyd, Haley and Hannah Hylton, Salem, Jacob Smith, Floyd. One greatgreat-grandchild survives, Trevan Via, Floyd. Maynard is survived by one sister-in-law, June H. Hylton, Christiansburg.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, November 16, 2006, at 2 p.m. in the Laurel Branch Church of the Brethren, Floyd, with Pastor Angela T. Carr and the Rev. Clyde E. Hylton (nephew) officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. Flowers are appreciated; however, donations may be made to the Laurel Branch Church of the Brethren or Laurel Branch Cemetery, c/o Robert Weeks, 3948 Floyd Highway S., Floyd, Va. 24091.
