Hoagland, David Adair

The Reverend Dr. David Adair Hoagland, 59, of 331 Flanagan Avenue, Dublin, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at the Pulaski Community Hospital.

Born August 5, 1946 in Rahway, New Jersey, he was the son of Audrey Williams Hoagland and the late Lester Adair Hoagland. One son, David Wesley Hoagland and his maternal and paternal grandparents also preceded him in death.

Dr. Hoagland was the Senior Pastor of the Dublin Baptist Church for 9+ years. He earned his doctorate in Theology from the Covenant Theological Seminary, a Master’s Degree in Sacred Theology from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary; a Master’s Degree in Education from the Newark State College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Davis & Elkins College.

He was a former moderator for the Lynchburg Baptist Association and the New Lebanon Baptist Association; a former chairman of the Virginia Baptist General Board; a past president of the Greater Washington, D.C. Association of Evangelicals; an executive board member for both the Buchanan County YMCA and the Big Brother and Big Sisters.

He was also a member of the Dublin Ministerial Association, a past president of the Dublin Lions Club and a member of the Waldron School of Nursing Council at Radford University. He was a chaplain at the Pulaski Community Hospital where he was also involved in Chaplain training. He was an instructor at the New River Criminal Justice Training Academy.

Dr. Hoagland used to broadcast for the Liberty University Flames football team along with Lynchburg & Grundy area football games. He officiated over 25 years for High School sports in Lynchburg, Grundy and Northern Virginia.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred Louise Thompson Hoagland, Dublin; son and daughter-in-law, Scott Lamar and Susan Tolbert Hoagland, Galax, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica Ruth and Ray J. Kirby, Christiansburg, Va.; grandchildren, Alexis Ruth Kirby and Aiden Drew Hoagland; mother, Audrey Williams Hoagland, Forrest, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Reverend Dr. Donald C. and Yvette Hoagland, Grove City, Pa.; aunt, Betty Seaman, Old Forge, Pa.; a number of nieces and nephews, many special cousins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 22, 2006 at 1 p.m. at the Dublin Baptist Church with the Rev. Darrell Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow at the Old Dublin Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the Dublin Baptist Church, Dublin. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his honor may be sent to the Dublin Baptist Church Memorial Fund (P.O. Box 669, Dublin, Va. 24084). Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski is handling the arrangements.
