Heywood, Judith Ann O’Leary

Judith Ann O’Leary Heywood, died peacefully in her home in Blacksburg, Va., on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, after a battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Mary Mabel O’Leary. She is survived by two brothers, Frederick and Brian O’Leary; a son, Todd and his wife, Pat, of Northport, N.Y.; and a daughter, Leigh and her husband, David Lally, and their two children, Sage and Ben, of Blacksburg, Va. Judith was born on March 18, 1936, and raised in Belmont, Mass. She received her BA from the University of Massachusetts in 1957, and MA from the University of Connecticut in 1973. She resided in Mansfield Center, Conn., for over 40 years where numerous friends will miss her. An accomplished tailor and dressmaker, Judith retired from the University of Connecticut’s Department of Dramatic Arts in 2009, where she held the position of Costume Shop Manager and lecturer for 25 years. She moved to Blacksburg in June 2009 to be near her daughter and grandchildren. There will be a Memorial Service 3 p.m. on Friday, August 20, 2010, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Blacksburg, Va. An interment service will be held 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2010, at Riverside Cemetery, Mansfield, Conn.
