Heath, Alan Gard

Alan Gard Heath, 87, of Blacksburg, Va., passed away Monday, March 13, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; son, Steven of Denver, Colo, daughter, Jennifer of Durango, Colo.; and brother, Eric of Los Altos, Calif.

Alan was born in Wichita, Kan., on July 30, 1935. He obtained his PhD from Oregon State University in 1963. He was professor emeritus of biology at Virginia Tech with research interests in physiology, and also taught and did research for many summers at Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory in Colorado. He was active in many environmental organizations and was a longstanding and active member of the Unitarian-Universalist Congregation in Blacksburg, Va.
