Harris, Cornelia Thomas

amem_redrose.jpgCornelia Glada Thomas Harris, 82, of Floyd, died Saturday, February 2, 2002. She was born April 2, 1919 in Patrick County, Va. and was the daughter of the late John and Hettie Ann Elizabeth Thomas. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. She and her devoted husband, Vernon, owned and operated Harris Cleaners in Floyd from 1941-1997. She was a member of Floyd United Methodist Church, Floyd County Women’s Club, United Methodist Women’s Club and the Floyd Garden Club. She loved traveling and cooking for friends and family. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Vernon; two daughters and son-in-law, Judy Duesberry of Portsmouth and Constance and John Mitchell of Roanoke; and two granddaughters, Regina Duesberry of Portsmouth and Christie Meredith of Roanoke. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at Floyd United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. Burial to follow in Jacksonville Cemetery, Floyd. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Maberry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request consideration of Floyd United Methodist Church or Floyd Rescue Squad.
