Grubb, Lura Simpkins

Lura Simpkins Grubb, 104, made her final journey to her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at her home in Radford.

She was a member of Valley Christian Ministries and retired from Dublin Garment Factory. She was born July 15, 1902 in Pulaski County the daughter of the late Joseph James and Cordelia Simpkins. She spent her lifetime creating a home for her family and at the age of 102, due to her declining health, she moved into the “life of luxury”. She spent her first night in the first house she ever owned where she could get a drink of fresh water with the turn of a spigot and launder clothes without lugging jugs to the old wringer washer.

She raised her children with a firm hand, a lot of love and the strength she praised the Lord for giving her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Grubb.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter Delbert, Jr. and Cleo Grubb and Bobby L. and Judy Grubb, all of Hiwassee; five daughters and sons-in-law, Treva Buggs, Helen Flinchum, Geneva and J. C. Phillips, Juanita and Henry Hall, and Jearline Simpkins, all of Radford; 30 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren and many great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev. Cecil Albano officiating. Interment will follow in the Snowville Baptist Church Cemetery in Pulaski County. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
