Gaffney, Dorothy A.

gaffney_dorothy_harrisDorothy A. (Skeekie) Gaffney, 83, of Christiansburg, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at Montgomery Regional Hospital with her loving husband, Gerald, by her side.

Skeekie was born in Bluefield, W.Va. on March 28, 1923 to Milton and Dorothy Flinchum Harris. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Morris, Ray, and James Harris; and three sisters, Effie O’Neill, Margie Dillow, and Mary Ellen Shumaker.

Skeekie and Gerald moved to Christiansburg from Lady Lake, Florida in 1986. She was employed by Durham Young Medical Clinic in Leesburg, Florida and Precision Glass in Christiansburg. She was very active in St. Paul Methodist Church, active in Circle #2 and the United Methodist Women. She also enjoyed participating in the Joy Singers.

Skeekie and Gerald were married in Leesburg, Fla. on January 8, 1954.

Survivors other than Gerald include nieces, Freda Bell of Troy, Va., Margaret (Johnny) Coleman of Spotsylvania, Va., Karen (Hal) Faust of Butler, Pa., Pam (Jerry) Dennison of Crofton, Md., Mary Jane (Tom) Farmer of Princeton, W.Va. There are many grandnieces and grandnephews and cousins, especially, Anna Lee Lawrence of Christiansburg, Va. Many great friends, caring neighbors and a special cat, Dave Pear gave her much joy.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 9, 2006. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2006 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church with Dr. David Goodpasture and the Rev. Brian Siegle officiating.

Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg. Flowers are appreciated, those choosing to make memorial contributions, please consider the Montgomery County Humane Society or St. Paul United Methodist Church.
