East, Iretta Leftwich

Iretta Leftwich East, 79, formerly a lifelong resident of Narrows, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 12, 2006 at the home of her sister, June Weismer in Dallas, Texas.

She was born in Bluefield, Virginia on November 30, 1926 and was the daughter of the late John Mason and Ida Mae French Leftwich. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Ray East; and two sons, Lanny and Jeffrey East.

Iretta was a retired employee of Celanese Acetate in Narrows. Since 1999, she had been a patient at the Weismer House and was attended to by two angels, June and Sissy during her struggle with Alzheimer’s.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Atwood of Pembroke and Donna East Beam of Woodstock, Georgia; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, June Weismer of Dallas, Lois Yeathermon and Alice Stewart, both of Pearisburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows.
