Doss, Nell Frances

Nell Frances Doss, 74, born on February 16, 1949, was received into heaven (during her sleep) on January 1, 2024, at the Spring Oak Senior Living Home in Christiansburg.

Nell moved to Christiansburg after receiving her degrees in higher education from Bluefield College, VA, and graduating with her Bachelor of Science at Radford University, followed by her Master’s Degree in Counseling at Va. Tech. As a professional counselor for the blind and visually impaired, she worked tirelessly for the Dept. of Blind & Visually Impaired with Roanoke as her hub while taking her expertise to the 7 counties surrounding Roanoke. Her joy was to help others to achieve a better quality of life even with their impairment.

Growing up a county girl of Sandy Level, VA, she and her whole family (Nell had 11 siblings) were good and active members of the Sandy Level Baptist Church. The church was so important to Nell and her family that they would rotate monthly with other families to clean the whole church and make ready for Sunday’s Worship Service. Additionally, Nell sang in the Vesper Choir.

One December morning of 2014, Nell visited the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and the pastor, Rev. Charles DeHart, was smitten with this very energetic young lady. The Spirit of the Lord led them into marriage on Nov. 16, 2016 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Kanney officiating. Nell and Charles have enjoyed 7 years of loving and caring for each other through these seven years of serving God in His churches.

Nell is now reunited with her father James William Doss and his wife, Ida Louise Owen Doss, and she is survived by her husband, Charles; her brothers, Carlton, Bobby and Jimmie; and her sister, Ann.

The first funeral service for Nell will take place at Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg on Thursday January 4, 2024 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The second service will be at Sandy Level Baptist Church on Friday January 5
at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Gretna Burial Park. Everyone is welcome.
