Davis, Elizabeth Helen
Elizabeth Helen Davis, 103, of Radford, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014. She was born in Roanoke on March 1, 1910 the daughter of the late Jerry and Lillian Hickman of Price’s Fork. Elizabeth’s parents died while she was a child so she moved to the Radford home of Charles and Sallie Price, who raised and cared for her as their own. She remained with them until 1947 when Mrs. Price died.
Elizabeth worked over the years for various families, met many people and developed many friends that she cherished. In time she was able to acquire her own home. She was a wonderful hostess and talented cook, and was known for her hospitality and generosity. She loved visits from her friends and always made them feel appreciated and very special. Always concerned for others, she gave a helpful hand and brought her friends together for very special occasions. One of her most special occasions was a Christmas dinner each year in her home for her friends.
Elizabeth was loved by the Radford Community. She always treated others as she wanted to be treated with respect and her demeanor was a great example of a southern lady. She lived her life by example through serving others and showing her appreciation and love for her friends through her hospitality, generosity, and the delicious dishes she cooked for them.
Elizabeth leaves behind many friends whom she considered her family including a very special lifelong friend Martha Owells. She was also blessed to have a wonderful guardian, Tina Cunningham, who took good care of her during her last years.
A memorial service to celebrate Elizabeth’s life will be held Sunday, June 22, 2014 at 1:30 pm at Zion Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Eric Remy officiating. Following the service she will be interred in the Grace Episcopal Church Garden by Father David Rose. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Elizabeth’s name to the charity of your choice.
