David, Willie Byrd

My beloved mother, Willie Byrd David, 93, of 303 West Main Street, Radford, died on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at New River Valley Medical Center.

Born May 28, 1913 in Lee County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Byrd Howard and Ella Collier Howard. Her husband, Elmo David, three sisters and one brother, also preceded her in death.

For 30 years, she was a member of the First Christian Church in Pulaski where she served as an elder and Sunday School Teacher. When she moved to Radford, she became a member of the First Christian Church in Radford. She was retired from the C & P Telephone Company (now Verizon) where she worked for 33 years. For many years, Byrd was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Suzanne David, Radford; sister, Lillian Simpson, West Virginia; many loved nephews and nieces, Gerald and Joy Kilgore, Richmond, Dr. Ronald Simpson and late wife, Charlotte Simpson, Athens, Ga., David and Priscilla Simpson, Hartwell, Ga., John and Pauline Hensley, Bluff City, Tenn., Dr. Wayne and Carol Hensley, St. Paul, Minn., Jim and Carolyn Hensley, Carrollton, Ga., Linda Byrd and Jim Miller and Priscilla Simpson, all of Huntington, W.Va., Mark and Donna David, Richmond, Carol Ann and Manuel Munoz, Quantico; sister-in-law, Betty David, Salem; her very special friends, Buddy and Johanna Vest, Irene Goodykoontz, Celine Sanders, all of Radford, and the Rygas Family of Pulaski.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church, Pulaski with the Rev. Dr. Gina Rhea and the Rev. Christine Reisman officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bob White Blvd., Pulaski.
