Darnell, Sr., Garnet Fount

Garnet Fount Darnell Sr, 82, of Big Stony Creek departed this earth on April 16, 2024 at Carilion Medical Center in Christiansburg, VA. Born on October 8th, 1941 he is preceded in death by his parents Fount and Amanda Darnell of Washington County, VA, his sister Teenie Marie Thorpe (Eddie), an infant baby sister Barbara, sister-in-law JoAnn Darnell, step-mom Elizabeth Darnell, and nephew Scott Darnell.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Theida Carter Darnell, two sons Garnet Fount Darnell Jr (Brenda Griggs), and Timothy Cleve Darnell (Lynn) all of Big Stony Creek. Six grandchildren Melissa Martin (Chad) of Pembroke, Chad Darnell of Big Stony Creek, Krystal Darnell of Fairfax, Va, Teri Darnell of Roanoke, Va, Shasta Darnell (James) of Bear Springs. Six great-grandchildren Izzak and Emma Perez of Texas, Branson and Gatlin Martin of Pembroke, and J.P. and Oaklynn Jackson of Bear Springs. Five brothers and sisters Virgil Darnell of Darnell Mountain, Dorothy Thorton (Joe) of Baltimore, MD, Charlene Cales (Max) of Narrows, Larry Darnell (Rose) of Waiteville, WV, Gary Darnell (Bobbie Sue) of Big Stony Creek, special cousin Swanson Puckett (Phyllis) of Saltville, and close friend Earl Delong (Zannie) of Waiteville, WV.

Garnet retired from The Chemical Lime Plant on Big Stony Creek after over 30 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, finding morels, gardening, and spending time with his family.

The family will receive friends in a time of visitation on Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM in Riverview Baptist Church. There will be a funeral service conducted in his honor on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 3:00 PM in Riverview Baptist Church with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Funeral services will conclude in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Virginia on Monday, April 21, 2023 at 11:00 AM where he will be laid to rest.
