Earl Daves Cabaniss, 89, of Pulaski, passed away at home on Tuesday May 1, 2012. Earl was born August 4, 1922, in Danville, VA. Preceded by his parents, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Edna Faye Brickhouse Cabaniss. Earl had a son, Earl, Jr. and his wife Lugene, Pulaski; and 2 daughters, Susan and her husband John Kirby of Roanoke, and Beth and her husband Rick Wadsworth of Savannah, GA. He had 6 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters. Susan’s children are John Daves Kirby, San Jose, CA; Tyler Hamilton Kirby, Roanoke; Jordan Cabaniss Kirby, Charlotte, NC. Earl, Jr.’s children are Jackie and Chris Gephardt, Abingdon, MD; Tanna Faye and John Payne, Richmond, VA; and Earl Daves “Cab” Cabaniss III, Pulaski. Jackie and Chris Gephardt have 2 daughters, Gabby and Kendall. Earl was a graduate of the Augusta Military Academy, Class of 1943, 1st Capt 43 and CW Capt 43, the only Cadet ever so Honored, and an inductee of the AMA Sports Hall of Fame. Earl saw service during W.W. II with the 654th Tank Destroyer Battalion from Omaha Beach to Germany and was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. Earl retired from Sovran Bank in 1990 as a Regional Vice President after 40 years in the financial industry. Earl was a member of the Pulaski Country Club for 60 years, loved the game of Golf, and was a frequent member of the lunch time card game. Visitation will be at the First United Methodist Church, Jefferson Avenue, Pulaski, VA on Friday May 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM; followed by a his Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Augusta Military Academy Alumni House and Museum, P.O. Box 100, 1640 Lee Hwy, Fort Defiance, VA 24437; or to the First United Methodist Church, 301 N Jefferson Ave, Pulaski, VA 24301.
