Burton, Jr., Elbert

Funeral services for Elbert (E.J.) Burton, 75, of Dublin, Va., were held Oct. 2, 2006 at the Church of God in Dublin with the Pastor Michael Collins and Chaplain Thomas Rice officiating. Interment was at Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Dublin.

Mr. Burton died Sept. 27, 2006 of heart failure.

He was born Nov. 4, 1930 in McClain County, near Purcell, the son of Elbert Burton and Ova Hook Burton. He was reared in the Purcell and Washington area. He later moved to California, Texas and back to Oklahoma before moving to Virginia where he lived until his death.

Mr. Burton attended the Church of God in Dublin and was formally employed by Wade’s Supermarket in Dublin and bought and sold furniture.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ted Burton, and three sisters, Pauline and Rowena Burton and Evelyn Fannon.

Survivors include his wife, Freda, of the home; three sons, Benny Burton of Dublin, Jackie Burton and his wife, Leota, of Dallas, Texas, and Tony Burton of Purcell; four daughters, Pearlene Stacy and her husband, Jackie, Rosemary Preast and her husband, Johnny, Kathy Haden and her husband, James, all of Lindsey, and Connie Newton and her husband of Tribby; four stepchildren, Raymon, Calvin, Bruce and Roger Thornton; four sisters, Orheta Lindsay of Hesperia, Calif., Pat Evans of El Reno, and Frances Wells and Gail Trimmell and her husband, Bob, all of Purcell; seven brothers, Charles Burton and his wife, Dorothy, of Bakersfield, Calif., Verdell Burton and his wife, Janice, of Lubbock, Texas, Curtis Burton and his wife, Joyce, of Clinton, Glendon Burton and his wife, Linda, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Gene Burton, Keith Burton and his wife, Marie, and Terry Burton and his wife, Lori, all of Purcell, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
