Boitnott, Gladys Jewell Peters

“To learn and never be filled is wisdom. To teach and never be weary is love.” Gladys Jewell Peters Boitnott died October 25, 2006, after a brief illness. She was born February 8, 1921, to the late Beula Bowman Peters and John Wilcie Peters.

She loved God, her family and teaching. She taught at Christiansburg High School, Andrew Lewis High School, and Callaway High School from 1941 until 1951. She taught algebra and geometry at Franklin County High School from 1964 until her retirement in 1985. Math was the subject but how to be successful in life was the lesson. She required your best effort, nothing less, and nothing more.

She was a dedicated and life long member of Antioch Church of the Brethren. She was a quiet leader in her church and community.

She will be loved and forever missed by her husband of 58 years, Russell Thomas Boitnott, her daughter Anne McClelland and husband Bob, their children Alex and Hunter, her son John Boitnott and Carol Jean, her daughter Gladys Hall and husband Michael, her son William Boitnott and wife Helen, their children Russell and Peter, her sister Virginia Ann Flora and husband Richard, their children, June Flora Lindsey and husband Georg, Carol Flora, Stuart Flora and wife Elizabeth, her nieces, Blair and husband Will, April and Savannah, her nephew Zachary, and many, many students.

A service celebrating her life will be held at Antioch Church of the Brethren, 3 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2006 officiated by Pastor Tom Powers. Interment will follow in the Antioch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family invites your consideration of a gift to the Antioch Church of the Brethren or the Antioch Community Center.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the many friends and neighbors who provided comfort, care and support during the past several weeks. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
