Boggess, Jr., Thomas Cooper

Thomas Cooper Boggess Jr. (Tommy) of Rich Creek, Virginia, passed from this life to his heavenly home on April 5, 2024. Tommy was born on May 18, 1943, to Thomas Cooper Boggess Sr. and Lavinia Hill Boggess.

Everyone who knew Tommy, knew he was a servant here on earth. All his life he served, especially his church, the First Methodist Church in Rich Creek. Tommy was a fireman, serving in both Peterstown and Rich Creek Volunteer (life member) Fire Departments, as well as the fire brigade at the Celanese plant where he was employed and retired from after over 40 years of service. He was a member of the Giles County Hazardous Materials Team, a former Lions Club member, a Mason, and loved being a Ruritan member for many years. Tommy spent a huge part of his life volunteering as a Boy Scouts of America leader, leading his three sons and countless other young men through many years of scouting experiences, even taking some of the grandchildren along on their adventures. Overall, Tommy just loved helping people.

Tommy loved his family and would make sure his boys got to participate in any and everything they wanted to do. Boy Scouts, baseball, football, showing horses, basketball, and wrestling to name a few. Then came the grandkids and again football, softball, volleyball, baseball, basketball, dance, gymnastics, drama, and cheerleading. Paw-paw Tommy was wherever the kids were even if he had to ride the wheel chair!

Tommy leaves to cherish in his memory, first and foremost, his loving wife of 53 years, Marva Mills Boggess. His brother, Bobby Boggess and wife Susan. Three sons and their wives, Billy Boggess (Shelly), Tony Boggess (Missy), Mason Boggess (Crystal). Eight grandchildren; Jessie Ansley (Colten), Dusty Boggess (Savannah), Riley Rose Boggess, Hudson Boggess, Maizy Boggess, Evie Boggess, Rhea Perdue, and Cooper Boggess, two great-grandchildren; Willa Ansley and Ryder Boggess, and a special great-nephew Dakota Frazier.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any of the organizations Tommy was proud to be part of throughout his life.
