Bishop, Ethel Vaught
Ethel Ellen Vaught Bishop of Eggleston, Virginia died on December 11, 2023. She was preceded in death by Randolph Bishop, her husband of 50 years. She was born in Fort Gay, West Virginia on May 25, 1929, the daughter of the late Denver and Elizabeth Marie Vaught.
Ethel worked at the Celanese Corporation in her younger years before her appointment as Postmaster of the US Post Office in Eggleston, where she retired after 20 years of service. She was also a board member of the Pembroke Telephone Cooperative for many years. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, history, and genealogy. She researched and hand-wrote a family history book for each of her daughters. As the unofficial historian of Eggleston, she enjoyed gathering and sharing information about the town and its history.
She is survived by two daughters, Martha Adams (Chip) of New Castle, Virginia, and Allison Lucas (Jeff) of Oakdale, California; grandchildren, Jennifer Helm of Elliston, Virginia, Zach Adams of Evington, Virginia, and Mitchell Lucas of Naples, Florida; six great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, John Vaught, Roscoe Vaught, and Lawrence Vaught; sisters, Jean Mills and Barbara Geraldine Vernon; and grandson Jason Lucas.
Funeral will be in Birchlawn Abby on Saturday, December 16 at 1:00 pm. The family will receive visitors before the service on Saturday, December 16, 2023 in Birchlawn Abby beginning at 12:00 PM.
