Barnett, Carrol Andrew

Carrol Andrew Barnett, 88, of Hale St. in Pearisburg, went to be with the Lord at his home Sunday evening, October 8, 2006. Born in Giles County on February 11, 1918, he was a son of the late George Estil and Georgia Perkins Barnett and stepson of the late Florence Ratcliff Barnett.

Carrol was retired from the Celanese Celco Plant with over 40 years of service; was a veteran of the US Navy in World War II where he received the Purple Heart; attended the Pearisburg Church of God of Prophecy with his wife Carrie; and was one of the areas most accomplished Bluegrass musicians playing anything that had strings especially the mandolin and guitar, his favorites.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hattie Lang Barnett; and a granddaughter, Sherry Barnett. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife and caregiver, Carrie Whittaker Barnett; a son and daughter-in-law, Alfred and Helen Young Barnett of Pembroke; two grandchildren, Tammy Barnett and Jeremy Barnett; great-grandchildren, Brook Lavender, Dylan Barnett and Amber Barnett; brothers, Bobby Barnett of Pearisburg, Jim Barnett of Roanoke; sisters, Virginia Pratt of Roanoke, Elsie Stephens of Pearisburg, Peggy Short of Goose Creek, S.C., Louise Barnett of Pembroke; stepchildren. Annette Lucas of Beckley, W.Va., Harold Riggs of Pearisburg, Carol Gardner of St. Augustine, Fla., Victoria Riggs of Jacksonville, Fla., Kenneth Riggs of Newport News.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
