Barnes, Sylvia Oliphant
Sylvia D Barnes, aged 71, of Christiansburg, passed away after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and joined her heavenly home on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Sylvia was born in Salinas, California, on January 26, 1952 and spent her childhood in Hollister, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Charlcia Oliphant of Hollister, California. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Donald E. Barnes of Christiansburg; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Richard Gilley of Christiansburg; grandchildren Rachel Hamm, Nicholas Hamm and Wyatt Gilley; and many other wonderful friends and family both near and far.
A celebration of life service will be held at Hope Valley Church in Christiansburg on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 11:30 am. The family will receive friends at 11 am prior to the service.

I am so sorry to hear about Sylvia’s passing. Actually, I am shocked. I lived with Sylvia in three different apartments over the period of 3 years in Gilroy, CA which is close to Hollister, California. We had a lot of good times together. She was always a good freind to me. My heart goes out to each of you.
