AYLESWORTH, Martin Stewart

amem_autumn.jpgMartin (Marty) Stewart Aylesworth, 58, passed away Friday, August 25, 2006 at his home in Radford.

He graduated from the University of Virginia receiving his B.A. in Philosophy, and both his M. Ed. and Ph.D. in Education Psychology. He began his teaching career as an English teacher in the Louisa County School system. He spent several years as a research assistant in the Curry School of Education, UVA and came to Radford University in 1982 as a Professor of Education where he has taught for 25 years.

Over the years he has been chairperson of the Department of Human Services, Acting Chairperson of the School of Social Work, Associate Dean of the College of Education and Human Development, Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Department Chair of the Department of Educational Studies and Professor of Education in the Educational Studies Department.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas H. Aylesworth of Fairfax, and David V. Aylesworth of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Diana Aylesworth of Charlottesville, and Laura Parolisi of Waynesboro; his father, Vincent Aylesworth; his brother, Kenneth of Washington; three sisters, Marjorie and Wendy, both of Hawaii, and Muriel of New York; eight grandchildren; and a special friend and colleague, Toni Elitharp of Roanoke.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, August 27, 2006 at 7 p.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Road, Suite 106A, Roanoke, Va. 24018 or the Carilion Hospice Services, 707 Randolph Street, Suite 251, Radford, Va. 24141.
