Robert Lorn Alexander, 82, of Hilcrest Dr. in Pearisburg, departed this life to go home to rest on Sunday, August 20, 2006 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Robert was born to the late Bill and Gladys Wells Alexander on August 13, 1924 in Pearisburg, where he spent most of his childhood.

He was a World War II Veteran of the US Army, as well as a 34 year employee of the Celanese Celco Plant at Pearisburg. After retirement he worked at Long Airdox Corp in Pearisburg. Robert loved the Lord and loved going to Church.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Bill and Gladys Alexander, one brother, Charles (CD) Alexander and one uncle Eugene Wells.

Left to cherish Robert’s memory are his wife, Catherine Carter Alexander; two sons, Vincent (Beth) Alexander of Atlanta, Georgia and Rev. Gary (Dar) Alexander of Wirtz; three daughters, Cynthia Thompson of Winston-Salem, N.C., Patricia Alexander of Greensboro, N.C. and Beverly Alexander of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Rodney (Mickey) Alexander of Hyattsville, Md.; three sisters, Loretta Hill and Charlotte Carter, both of Washington, D.C., Bettye Campbell of Wytheville; one aunt, Alethea Wells of Drakes Branch; one sister-in-law, Thelma Harris of Columbus, Ohio; one brother-in-law, Russell (Carmen) Carter of San Antonio, Texas; ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in First Baptist Church in Pearisburg with Pastor Michael Bratton officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church in Pearisburg from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Funeral arrangements are with Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke. (9818904)
