Akers, Elsie Reed

Elsie (Effie) Reed Akers, 101, of Floyd, passed away Friday, May 19, 2006. She was born May 28, 1904, and was nine days from her 102nd birthday at the time of her death.

Mrs. Akers was a member of the Floyd Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Andrew J. Akers, her son, the late Hobert Akers, and her son-in-law, the late Freeman Reed.

Surviving are her daughter, Eleanor Akers Reed, Floyd; her daughter-in-law, Gladys Akers, W. Va.; ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2006 at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. C.E. Mannon and Mr. Larry Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday after 4 p.m. where the family will be from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.
