Castaneda, Helen Winton

Helen Winton Castaneda, 83, of Blacksburg, VA, died on Friday, December 23. She was born in Marlinton, WV, the daughter of the late Reverend William Garnet Winton and Josephine Winton.

Helen is survived by her husband Henry and sisters Florence Womack of Richmond and Mary Jo Brower of Boynton Beach, FL; children, William Bullington of Richmond, Fred Bullington of Bowling Green, KY, and wife Zema, Andy Bullington of Norfolk, Beth Crow of Raleigh, NC, and husband Pete, and Mary King of Norfolk; grandchildren, Amy Crow, Jessica Bullington, Rob Crow, Jason Wells, Jennifer Bullington, Aisslynn Bullington, Travis King, Clarissa Bullington, John F. Bullington, Jr., and Alyson King, and 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, William Garnet Winton, Jr., predeceased her.

Helen served until her retirement as a substance abuse counselor. She was an active member of Glade Church (Blacksburg), Blacksburg Regional Art Association, and Virginia Tech International Friendship Program, wherein she would welcome and mentor foreign students. Known for her love of people, passion for art, and deep faith in God, she knew no stranger and was a tireless provider of hope.

A service will be held at 11 am, December 27 at Glade Church, Blacksburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glade Church, P.O. Box 11565, Blacksburg, VA 24062-1565.
