Simms, Myrtle Foster

amem_resurrectionMyrtle Mae Foster Simms, age 95, died unexpectedly December 2, 2016 shortly after admission to Summit Place in Rich Creek, Virginia. Born July 10, 1921 in Lanark, West Virginia, she was the eldest of ten children born to Charles E. and Bertha Saunders Foster.

She retired from Celanese Corporation after 25 years. She was a member of the Peterstown Missionary Baptist church, Peterstown Homemakers Club and former regent of the Peters Mountain Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Myrtle loved to travel, sew, quilt, garden and cook. As the eldest of ten children, cooking for a crowd was her specialty.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William F. (Fin) Simms, brothers, Ernest, Donald and David Foster, and sisters Florence Foster and Kay Hannan. She is survived by her two daughters, Helen Roth (Bob) and Karen Lawrence (Tony), both of Raleigh, North Carolina; granddaughters, Susan McGregor (George), Kristen Bagwell (Rob), Anne Strickland (Drew), and Leah Charbonneau; great-grandchildren, Kate, Will and Finn McGregor, Peyton and Whit Bagwell, Mason and Emily Charbonneau; sisters Faye Ramsey, Ruth Smith, Mary Walker; brother Charles L. (Lois) and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank members of the Peterstown Baptist Church, Faye Ramsey, Nancy Kornegay, Kathy Robertson and especially Greg, Pam, Morgan and Megan Bragg for making it possible for our Mother to continue to live at home.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Jon Jennings officiating. Burial will follow at Roles Chapel Cemetery, Forest Hill, WV. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, Tuesday at the church.
