Smithers, Hoyt D.

Hoyt D. Smithers went to be with the lord on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016. A native of Pulaski, Va., he was a resident of York County, Va., for the past 52 years.

He was a Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School graduate, retired from Newport News Shipbuilding after 44 years of service and was an Army veteran. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Tabb, Va., where in the past he had served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher and treasurer. Not to be ignored was his love and support for the Washington Redskins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Smithers; mother Blanche Smithers; and brother Venice Smithers.

Survivors include his wife, Beulah Smithers; daughter Tricia Smithers; son David Smithers (Kathy); grandchildren Whitney, Brea, Mason, Kristen, Laura and Erik; great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews; and sisters Guida Sutphin, Dawn Garwood and Judy Smith of Pulaski.

A visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at W.J. Smith and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Saturday, Oct. 22, at Stevens Funeral Home in Pulaski. Please leave online condolences at wjsmithandsonfh.com.
