Shouse, Hazel Akers
Hazel Irene Akers Shouse, 91, of Dublin, VA and most recently of Salem, VA departed this life on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. Born in Tazewell, VA on March 26, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Robert Akers, Sr. and Viola Asbury Akers.
Mrs. Shouse worked for many years at Radford University and was a long-time member of the New Dublin Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shouse was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Walter Edwin Shouse, by her brothers, Edgar Akers, Melvin Akers, Frank L. Akers, Sr., Roberts Akers, Jr., Andy Akers and Jim Akers and sisters, Katherine Kinder, Barnzie Lewis, Mary Wiseman, Mildred Pennington, and Margaret Rodriguez.
Left to cherish her memory are her pride and joy, son Larry Edwin Shouse and daughter-in-law Ginger Warner Shouse of Salem, VA; granddaughters Whitney Shouse Humphrey and husband Brent of Poughkeepsie, NY, Meredith Anne Shouse of New York, NY and great-granddaughter, Isabella Grace Bonura. She is also survived by her sister Ella Stephenson and husband John of Claremont, VA and many loving and caring nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful to the many neighbors, family and friends who loved and visited with her throughout the years while she lived in Dublin and Salem. A heartfelt thank you is extended to the staff of Salem Terrace at Harrogate and to Gentle Shepherd for their devoted, compassionate and loving care they provided her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2016 at the New Dublin Presbyterian Church, 5331 New Dublin Church Road, in Dublin, VA, with the Reverend Andrew Taylor-Troutman officiating. Burial will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va. The family will receive friends at the New Dublin Presbyterian Church one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m.
