White, Roy Lee

white_roy_leeRoy Lee White, age 91, of Peterstown, WV passed away peacefully at LewisGale Hospital, Blacksburg, Va on Thursday, September 15, 2016. He was the husband of the late Fannie Easter White and the son of the late Dorse Leonard White, Sr. and Mamie Neely White of Elgood, WV.

Roy was a Mercer County native born in the home at Elgood on May 26, 1925. He graduated from Athens High School while living and working on the family farm. Roy served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in Alaska. After returning home from his military service, he was employed by the Celanese Corporation, Narrows, VA. He worked as a Millwright-Pipe Fitter. White retired with 40 years of service.

He and his family moved from the farm to Mitchell Subdivision in Peterstown, WV during the late 1950’s where he lived until death. Roy was a past member of the Mt. View Community Church in Elgood before relocating to Peterstown. He maintained a strong belief in God during his time here on earth and was a dedicated member of the Peterstown United Methodist Church as well as the Men’s Bible Class. Roy enjoyed sketching, gardening, hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends. He loved the intense croquet matches played in the neighborhood with most of the men who would dare participate. The White family remained closely bonded through annual reunions held to fellowship and share family ties.

Roy was preceded in death by three brothers, Dorse Leonard “D. L.” White, Jr., Ward Henderson White, and Hugh Edgar White; four sisters, Anna Lois Cheatwood, Ruth Alma Updike, Juanita Faye Ferguson, Bernice Ima McGuire, and one granddaughter, Michelle Lee White. Survivors include one sister; Mary Lou Bailey of Baltimore, MD; one brother, Billy Boy White of Pettry, WV; two sons, Glen Leonard White and wife Alice of Covington, VA, Theodore ‘Ted’ Lee White and wife Pat of Abingdon, VA, and one daughter Catherine ‘Cathy’ Lynn Meadows and husband Frank of Wytheville, VA.; eight grandchildren, Lori, Phillip, Jay, Amy, Steven, Denise, Brian and Jennifer; ten great grandchildren; Jacob, Joseph, Cadiz, Madeline, Foster, Joshua, Lindsey, Noah, Delaney, Hannah and four great-great grandchildren.

Thank you Dr. Miller and staff; Dr. Fowlkes and LewisGale staff for providing great health care service during dad’s brief illness.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, September 19, 2016 at the Peterstown United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Smith and Pastor Terry Easter officiating. Burial will follow in the Peterstown Cemetery, Giles County, VA. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church, Monday.
