Sturgill, Michael Vester

Michael V. Sturgill, 73, of Blacksburg, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family until God took him home. He was born November 18, 1942 in Pound, Va. to the late Dencie and Vester Sturgill.

He was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Dianna Sturgill; and a precious niece, Jennifer Price.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ieda. He is also survived by a brother, S. Wayne Sturgill of South Carolina; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Lois Price of Blacksburg; four nephews, Steven Sturgill (Tricia) of South Carolina; David Sturgill (Amanda) of North Carolina, Chris Sturgill (Renee´) of Virginia; a very special nephew, Jason Price (Nyoka) of Blacksburg; three great-nieces; five great-nephews; two aunts, Joyce Bolling of Georgia, and Carnelia Smith of Blacksburg; he is also survived by numerous cousins, friends, and former golfing buddies.

When he was alive, he enjoyed golfing, playing cards, playing computer games, and attending and watching sports. In other words, he was a big kid. He and Ieda took in all the stray cats- they just knew where to come.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Blacksburg First Wesleyan Church with the Rev. John Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive S.W. Blacksburg.
