Higginbotham, Earnest “Dean”

Our Dad and loving Husband, Earnest “Dean” Higginbotham, 86 years young, left this world for his home in Heaven on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. He was born on April 28, 1930 in Hinton, WV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ray Higginbotham and Pansy Jones Higginbotham, his sister, Clarice Atkins, and husband H.D. “Tommy” Atkins, and a special “daughter” Terri Williams Jones.

Daddy retired at age 55 as a supervisor from the Celanese Corporation. He was also a master craftsman, a brick mason, whose work was perfection. He demanded excellence of himself in everything he did. We were so proud to call him “Dad”. He was a very determined, dedicated worker who provided well for his family. He was a member of the Peterstown Christian Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Harris Higginbotham and his five children, Donetta Dunbar and husband Larry of Narrows, VA, Sharon Hollaway and husband Butch of Radford, VA, Lisa Underwood and husband Ronnie of Narrows, VA, Gena Boothe and husband David of Lindside, WV and Todd Higginbotham of Forest Hill, WV; nine grandchildren, Michael, Torrey, Melanie, Nikki, Wes, Josh, Tyler, Madison and Jordan; nine great-grandchildren, Todd, Kyra, Payton, Brody, Spencer, Kendal, McKenzie, Adam and Whitney, along with many special nieces, nephews, and several close friends.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, WV with Minister Don Henegar officiating. Burial will follow in the Orchard Cemetery, Ballard, WV. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, August 19, 2016 at the funeral home.
