Claxton, Evelyn Loretta

Just before sunrise on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, Evelyn Loretta Claxton, 84, of Shawsville, Va. transitioned from life as we know it to an everlasting life with her heavenly father. She was preceded in death by her mother, Henrietta Claxton; sister and brother, Nancy and Bobby Claxton; and daughter-in-law, Janice Willis Claxton.

Evelyn was educated in Montgomery Co. at Christiansburg Institute. Upon leaving C.I., she held many jobs and was an exemplary employee at each one. She eventually retired from Hubbell Lighting after many years of service. Evelyn joined Shawsville Baptist Church at an early age and remained a faithful member until her health prevented her from attending.

Left to cherish her memory are her seven children, sons, Wayne, James and Kenneth Claxton; daughters, Paulette Claxton, Joyce Norrell, Carol Claxton, and Lisa Thaxton (Darryl); three grandsons; seven granddaughters; eight great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and two great-great grandsons; a devoted cousin, Rosanna Cromwell; and a host of extended family members and friends.

While flowers are appreciated, contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Evelyn L. Claxton will also be appreciated, alz.org.

The funeral service will be at noon on Monday, July 25, 2016 held at First Baptist Church of Elliston with the Rev. Paul Andrews officiating and the Rev. Kenneth B. Wright as the eulogist. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Shawsville Baptist Church Cemetery.
