Gates, Harry Lee

amem-freemasonHarry Lee Gates, 85 of Pulaski passed away at home on Monday, July 4, 2016. He was born on September 22, 1930 in Plasterco, Virginia to William “Bill” Gates and Vandell Smith Gates. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ruth Gates Stewart.

Has was an Iron Worker for Iron Worker Union #28 (formerly Union #697) out of Roanoke, Virginia. He was a long time member of First United Methodist Church, a member of Masonic Lodge #39 as a 32nd Degree Mason and a retiree from Radford Army Ammunition Plant.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Jean Gates; one sister Maud Brodd of Dawsonville, Georgia; one daughter Debra Gates Scanland and husband David Scanland of Christiansburg,; two sons Jesse Gates of Pulaski; Robert Gates and wife Mary of Radford; six grandchildren Sarah, Kallie, Andrew, Matthew, Kelley and Riley and four great-grandchildren Sydney, Ethan, Landon and Sophie.

Memorial Services will be conducted Saturday, June 9, 2016 at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski at 2 PM officiated by Rev. Johnny Howlett. Visitation will precede service from 1 to 2 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Habit for Humanity or a charity of your choice.
