Stewart, Betty Jean Dean

Betty Jean Dean, 78, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2009. She was born on June 13, 1931, to the late Walter C. and Beulah M. Dean. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Marlon Dean, Delma Dean, Bobby Dean, Walter “Dub” Dean, Wilda Pennington, and Everett Dean.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Arthur “Jack” Stewart; son, Jerry Wayne Stewart; daughter, Judy S. Atkinson and husband, John T. Atkinson; grandchildren, Jacqueline Y. Newsome, Gwendolyn S. Lala, Jerri Lynn Warburton, Kimberly M. Span, and Whitney Marie Span; seven great-grandchildren; one greatgreat-grandchild; brother, Bennie Dean and wife, Gina; and sister, Edith Semones.

Betty was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who touched many lives in the time she spent with us. She was very proud to be an ordained minister and performed many wedding ceremonies over the years. She was an inspiration to all, and will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2009, from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home with the Rev. Jube Burke officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 25, 2009, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home.
