Faiszt, James Allen
James Allen Faiszt, 87, of Blacksburg, Va., died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Kroontje Health Care Center. He was born in Dequincy, La., on October 11, 1921, to the late Elmer and Aslie Escobas Faiszt. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Norma Lucille Faiszt; his son, James Hampton Faiszt; and three sisters, Melba Rue West, Marjorie Merle Ayers, and Leanna Venner.
Jim was a retired professor from the Virginia Tech Department of Horticulture and the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service. He was a longtime member of the Blacksburg United Methodist Church. He also served for over 30 years as secretary of the Blacksburg Host Lions Club.
He is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Libby) Faiszt, of Hickory, N.C., and Norma Christine (Tina) Faiszt, of Charlotte, N.C.; his daughter-in-law, Patricia Faiszt, of Tacoma, Wash.; his grandson, Casey Faiszt and wife, Laura, and their son, Tyler Faiszt, all of Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Juanita Leonard, of Bossier City, La., and Joanne Little, of Houston, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Jim’s many friends and his caregivers at Showalter and Kroontje Health Care Centers for their care and support during his illness.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2009, in the Blacksburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Reggie Tuck officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Voice of the Blue Ridge, 4235 Electric Road, S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24014, or to Good Samaritan Hospice, 125 Arrowhead Trail, Christiansburg, Va. 24073.
