Griggs, Jeanne Smith

Jeanne Griggs, 93, of Galax, Virginia, formerly of Blacksburg, Virginia, passed away on January 21, 2016. She was born on December 16, 1922 in Jackson, Tennessee to Fenton and Grace Smith.

Jeanne attended Southeast Missouri College and later served as head librarian for the Blacksburg Town Library. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Blacksburg, and volunteered with the Montgomery County Christmas Store and Blacksburg Food Bank.

Jeanne is preceded in death by her husband, of 67 years, Walt Griggs, former Professor of Vocational and Technical Education at Virginia Tech. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Gil and Pat Griggs of Bristol, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law Patti and David Nelson of Galax, Virginia; 3 grandchildren – Lindsey Logue and husband Tom of Hilton Head, South Carolina; Matt Nelson and fiancé Ali Hutton of Roanoke, Virginia; and Ashlee Griggs of Bristol, Virginia; and 1 great grandchild – Brody Logue.

A funeral service will be held at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 25, 2016. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
