Layman, Johnnie Everett, Sr

Johnnie Everett Layman, Sr., age 84, of Blacksburg passed peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at The Crossings at Blacksburg. He was born in Patrick County, Va on January 16, 1931 to the late William Edgar and Monnie Martin Layman. He was preceded by his brother, Ray Layman.

He was a longtime member of the Baptist Church. Johnnie was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army, having taught the ROTC at Virginia Tech. He was a very active Real Estate developer in the New River Valley.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Ingram Layman; son, Johnnie E. Layman, Jr; daughter, Sherry Elmore; granddaughter, Emily Elmore; three sisters, Carolyn Matthews, Virginia Stowe, and Thelma Terry; and a brother, Bill Layman. Special thanks to the staff at The Crossings at Blacksburg and Good Samaritan Hospice.

Funeral Services will be conducted Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr. S.W. Blacksburg, Va.
