Todd, James Shelley

James Shelley Todd, 100, of Radford, passed away at Radford Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, January 2, 2016. A loving husband and father, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Emby (Mary Younger Todd).

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Bev Todd of Midlothian, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Libby and Skip Watts of Radford, Va.; grandchildren, Stephanie and Vincent Favreau of Spring, Texas, Olivia and Vincent Carchia of Radford, Va., and Jamie and Liz Watts of San Diego, Calif.; great grandchildren, Eleanore Favreau of Spring, Texas, Elizabeth Carchia and Murphy Carchia of Radford, Va.; and niece and nephews, Betsy and John Berry, Chris, Michael, and Tyler Berry of Fredericksburg, Va., Alan and Doris Twedt, Darrell and Linda Twedt, Todd and Beth Twedt of California, Brad, Tammy, Tyler, and Riley Twedt of Oregon, and Brent, Susan, Libby, and Evie Twedt of California.

Jim grew up in Astoria, Ill. and graduated from Western Illinois College. He served as a Marine officer in an ammunition company in the Pacific for two years during World War II. After the war, he earned a Master’s Degree in organic chemistry at the University of Delaware and worked for 30 years for Hercules Powder Company and at Radford Army Ammunition Plant. He was a Mason, a member of Radford VFW Post 776, and a member of Grove United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Grove United Methodist Church, Radford,, with funeral services at 3 p.m., the Reverend Aaron Pierce officiating. Interment will be at noon on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Westhampton Cemetery in Richmond, Va., with the Reverend William Miller officiating.
