Vest, Jackson W.

Jackson W. Vest, 95, of the Little Creek Community, Dublin, Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at his home. He was born June 18, 1913, at White Gate, Va., the son of the late William Marcel and Ettie Emily Woodyard Vest. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Myrtle Morris Vest; two sons, Wesley “Tommie” Vest and Charles Jackson Vest; four brothers; four sisters; and was the last one of the family.

He started carpenter work as a teenager building houses. In 1967 a partnership was formed as Vest and Wright Construction. They constructed buildings, apartments, houses and motels throughout the state of Virginia.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Woodyard Vest; two sons, John Douglas Vest and Bill Vest and wife, Debbie, of Dublin; two daughters, Freda V. Wright and Rachel Davis and husband, Jerry, of Dublin; a former daughter-in-law, Phyllis Vest Kirk and husband, Harold, of Dublin; a half sister, Sarah Vest Parsell and husband, Cassell, of Dublin; two stepchildren and spouses, Alfred and Patricia Woodyard and Rosalee and the Rev. David Butcher, of Dublin; 10 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2009, at French’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Billy Akers and the Rev. Dallas Jewel officiating. Burial in the Hunter Cemetery, Alum Springs. The visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at French’s Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m.
