Long, Louise Mildred

Louise Mildred Long, 101, of Radford, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Fred H. and Maude Kerr Long. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence L. Long, Richard H. Long, and Marcus H. Long; and her sister, Irma Long Barton of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Radford.

She is survived by a special niece, Shirley Barton Singleton and husband, Bruce of Miamisburg, Ohio; great-nieces, Tracy Ann Singleton and Robin Singleton Strader and husband, Bobby, also of Miamisburg, Ohio; a special great-nephew, Larry Wilson (L.W.) Long and wife, Phyllis of Radford, Va.; and several other nieces, nephews, and many friends.

She was a high school graduate and received a degree in Business Administration from Radford University. She retired from the Depatment of the Army at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant where she served as an Office Manager and Records Administrator. She was active in several clubs in Radford and was a charter member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, which was organized in 1955. She served as the President twice and was elected Woman of the Year by the club in 1987 for her service and leadership. She also served as President of the Woman’s Club of Radford as was active in the Inglewood Garden Club serving as Vice President and received a Lifetime Membership Award. She was a member of First Christian Church (now Unity Christian Church) and served as an Elder on the church board.

The family will receive friends from 11 to 1 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2015 at Unity Christian Church in Radford, with funeral services to follow directly after with the Reverend Wendy Wilson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Collins Scholarship Fund at Unity Christian Church (make checks payable to the church, with ‘Collins Scholarship Fund’ in the memo line – 400 Tyler Avenue).
