Shumate, Janet Morris

Janet Morris Shumate, 79, of Dublin, joined her Heavenly father on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, surrounded by her family and friends, and the loving hands of the caregivers from Cozy Home Haven, Fairlawn, Va. Mrs. Shumate was preceded in death by her parents, Elgene and Anna Mae Morris; and sisters, Anna Mae Anderson; Grace Crane; and twin sister, Jean McPeak.

She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 59 years, Glenn C. Shumate; daughter, Sandra Fox; sisters, Mable King; June King and Patsy Carr; Carol Marble; and brothers, E.B. Morris and Larry Morris.

Mrs. Shumate was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She proudly served her country in the United States Air Force before working in the communications and customer service fields. She dedicated her life to the service of God and family, making an indelible mark on the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. Her infectious smile and unwavering optimism will forever remain in the hearts of those whom she touched.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, December 7, 2015 at Dublin Christian Church, 5605 Dunlap Road, Dublin, VA with services immediately following performed by Pastor Richie Goad. She will be laid to rest at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Dublin Christian Church, P. O. Box 1330, Dublin, VA 24084.
