Morrison, Mary Elizabeth Snidow
Mary Elizabeth Snidow Morrison, 94, of Old Stage Road in Pembroke, departed this life Monday, June 1, 2009, at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek. Born in Pembroke on September 20, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Henley French Snidow Sr. and Lacie Lucas Snidow. Her late husband, Charles William Morrison, preceded her in death in 1971. Mary received her education at Radford University and was employed as a teacher with the Giles County School Board for 34 years. She is a member of the Pembroke Christian Church and has always been involved in all the activities of her church. She is a charter member of Pembroke Woman’s Club, DAR, UDC, Giles County Historical Society, Magna Charta Dames, Retired Teachers Association, and did volunteer work at the Giles County Historical Museum in Pearisburg. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Samuel Snidow Morrison and Carol Meredith Morrison; two grandsons, Charles Raymond (Chuck) Morrison and Christopher Ray (Chris) Morrison; and three great-grandchildren, all of Barboursville, W.Va.; and by her last surviving sibling, a sister, Anne Clark Frazer of Hamilton, Va. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 2 p.m., in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke, with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Mary requested that donations be made to Christian Women’s Fellowship, Group 1, of Pembroke Christian Church.
