Bloom, Leslye

Leslye Bloom, 70, of Blacksburg, died on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 in Blacksburg. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Allan Bloom, exactly seven years ago.

Leslye leaves behind innumerable friends and family who will deeply miss her incredible intelligence, her total honesty, and her penetrating wit. A talented artist, Leslye held Bachelors, Masters, and doctoral degrees in art education from Pennsylvania State University and she used that education to work with Virginia Tech’s art education program. She is a pioneer in the field of “computage”, a term she coined for the art that became her passion, a combinaton of traditional and digital media.

She shared her passion for rescuing dachshunds with her husband, Al, and she is survived by two of the loving pups she rescued, Orion and Elmo. Among family members who will miss her greatly are sister-in-law, Phyllis Stice and husband, Bob of Albuquerque, N.M.; niece, Mary Hutchens and husband, Troy of Nashville, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Linda Bloom and niece, Kate Burn of Albuquerque, N.M.; and aunt, Lynn Bloom of Richmond, Va.

Dr. Bloom belonged to the Blacksburg Regional Art Association and served a term as president. Many enjoyed her art shows and art exhibits. She worked actively with Blacksburg AARP Chapter where she also served as its president.

At the request of Dr. Bloom, there will be no memorial service.
