Lyons, Horace Avern

Horace “Avern” Lyons of Dublin went home to be with the Lord and family on May 6, 2006 at the age of 69 years old. He was preceded in death by W. H. Lyons, Sr., Helen C. Lyons, W.H. Lyons, Jr., W. Faye Moore and Billy Lyons.

He was a member of the Newbern United Methodist Church for many years. Avern was also active with the Newbern Volunteer Fire Department. Pulaski County Civitan Club and was an avid Virginia Tech and Atlanta Braves fan, as well. He was blessed with numerous friends to which he held dear to his heart. He enjoyed life to the fullest, often playing practical jokes on others and having a talent for making others smile.

Surviving are: his brother-in-law, John R. Moore, Cripple Creek; sister-in-law, Belva Lyons, Newbern; nieces, Anita and Rita Lyons, Pulaski County; nephews, Gerald Lyons, Pulaski, John M. Moore, Moneta; great-nephew, Matt Lyons, Pulaski; great nieces, Jennifer, Kassondra and Christa, Pulaski; great great nephew, Ely, Pulaski.

The family would like to thank the staff of Highland Ridge Rehab Center for making the last few years of his life so fulfilled. He loved each of you as you did him.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Newbern United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Newbern Cemetery. Visiting will be Monday at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va.
