Johnson, Cecil Milton

Sgt. Maj. Retired Cecil Milton Johnson, 97 of Pulaski departed his earthly home on October 24, 2015. He had made his home at Pulaski Health and Rehabilitation Center for the last six months, since his heart attack on May 1. His beloved residence for 43 years was 1320 Hopkins Drive in Pulaski.

Cecil will again be rejoined with his beloved wife Myrtis Ruth Fagg Johnson who passed away December 5, 1989. Cecil was born on February 7, 1918 in Meadow Grove, Nebraska to Fred B. and Jessie Beed Johnson. Cecil retired from the U.S. Army after 30 years of service. He was stationed at various forts on both the east and the west coasts, Hawaii, Germany and Vietnam. He began his service at the start of W.W.II and also saw service in the Vietnam War. His last position at retirement was a paratrooper stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. After retirement, he worked for the Ray’s Restaurant chain in Mt, Airy. He managed the Ray’s Restaurant in Pulaski and served as district manager as needed. Cecil was of the Methodist faith, having been baptized on the Nebraska prairie.

Cecil was preceded in death by his 4 brothers, Glen, Norman, Fred and Orville Johnson and his only and very special sister, Dorothy Johnson Chmeil. He is survived by his four daughters, Nancy Charlene and her husband Charles Henry Stoots, Jr. of Pulaski, Sandra Cecilla and her husband Larry Alton Cantrell of Roanoke, Cheryl Ann and her husband Harry Eugene Alley, Jr. of Pulaski, and Jennifer Lynn Johnson Taylor, of Kansas, City, MO. He is also survived by his son, Fred William Johnson and friend Vernon Craig Hudson of Clifton Forge. He is also survived by his only granddaughter, Amanda Alley Eads of Pulaski, and 5 grandsons, Douglas E. Alley, of Bensalem PA, Charles A. (Andy), and his wife Allison Morris Stoots of Roanoke, William C. (Chris) and his wife Beth Owens Stoots of Pulaski, Matthew E. Cantrell and fiancé Honey A. Comer of Brooklyn , NY, Aaron A. (Addison) and his wife Julia Evans Taylor of Kansas City, MO. He is also survived by three great-granddaughters Brooklynn C. Stoots and Anna Kate E. Stoots of Pulaski and Layla S. Stoots of Roanoke.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors. Visiting will be on Monday at Seagle Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Flowers are appreciated, or memorials may be made to the Aldersgate United Methodist church, 1946 Medallion Dr. Pulaski, Virginia 24301.
