Eyre, Margot

amem_autumn.jpgMargot Eyre of Blacksburg died suddenly on Monday, October 12, 2015. She was born to Walter & Christina Stewart in Dumfries, Scotland, in 1944; and grew up in Edinburgh and Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland.

Margot is survived by her husband of 52 years, Peter Eyre; Daughter Sarah Eyre and Husband Jason Todd; Son-In-Law Ash Olesen, and Grandson Nigel Olesen. Margot was preceded in death by Daughter, Susan Eyre; and a son Simon Eyre. Margot was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

She and Peter met at the University of Edinburgh where Margot was a clinical laboratory specialist. They married in 1963. Margot, Peter and family moved from Scotland to Guelph,Canada in 1968 to join the Ontario Veterinary College. In 1984 the family moved to Blacksburg to join the Virginia- Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. Margot was a happy, kind, gentle and generous soul who devoted herself to her family; many close friends and neighbors; and her beloved horses, donkeys;and loyal dogs.

Margot was an enthusiastic, generous supporter of a student scholarship in veterinary medicine; St. Judes’ Children’s Hospital; The Humane Society; The Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry, and several other charities. According to Margot’s wishes there will be no visitation, viewing, or public service. A private funeral with immediate family members and close family friends was held on Friday, October 16, 2015.
