Jones, Casey Steven

Casey Steven Jones, 55, of Elliston, went home Friday, July 24, 2015. He was preceded in death by his son, B.J. and friend, Robert. Casey was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother to his family and one of the finest public servants to the citizens of the Town of Blacksburg.

He served with the Blacksburg Police Department for 31 years in a multitude of capacities and retired as the Lieutenant of Investigations in 2013. As a police officer he was calm, quiet and confident. He always led by example and never wavered from his duty, even when faced with the most difficult and dangerous conditions. He defined the true brotherhood that exists in this honorable profession.

As a man, Casey left his mark on all that he came in contact with, his kindness and compassion were his trademark and he served as a constant example for how people should treat one another. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for someone in need.

As his illness progressed and robbed him of more and more of his life, he was always focused on the trials and tribulation of others and put their needs before his. He lived for his friends and family and to have the wind blowing over the handlebars of his beloved Harley. If it was broken, he could fix it, if it was needed, he could build it, if you needed a hand, you got it. We are all saddened by our loss but relived in knowing what talent must have been needed in heaven to take him so soon. May we all live our lives by his fine example. Casey was a veteran of the United States Army.

Left to cherish his memory and their time together, his wife, Rose, of thirty one years; daughter, Katie Denise Wright and husband, William Wright; granddaughters, Megan and Ruby Grace; grandson, Joseph; great-grandchild to be Jayden; parents, Fredrick and Noline Jones; brother, Fredrick and wife, Vanessa Jones; sister, Vickie Francisco; sister, Minerva and husband, Mike Duncan; Shirley Foutz (the other woman in his life).

Casey loved the freedom of riding his Harley and taking road trips. He always said he never made a wrong turn – just took the scenic route. He always loved a good laugh, his friends, family and extended family. He will be greatly missed by all the people and lives that he touched.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Southern Care Hospice and caregivers Mike St. Clair, Kathleen McGovern and Roby Lloyd for their care during Casey’s illness.

Memorial services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Grace Assembly of God, 5530 Catawba Valley Drive, Catawba, VA with the Rev. Loraine R. Taylor officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Casey S. Jones Scholarship Fund, c/o Mountain Valley Chartiable Foundation, 267 Allegheny Spring Road, Shawsville, VA 24162.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
